BCLEAR - Bladder Cancer Literacy for All: Advancing Knowledge and Care in Europe
In direct partnership with a European network of patient organisations, clinicians and public health experts, BCLEAR (Bladder Cancer Literacy for All) works to improve awareness, understanding and shared decision-making in bladder cancer across Europe, helping people recognise symptoms earlier and access the right information and care.
BCLEAR is a three-year initiative co-funded by the European Union, set to improve public understanding of bladder cancer across Europe.
Project mission
To create and deliver health literacy tools for bladder cancer patients and a dedicated toolkit for healthcare professionals, enabling shared decision-making, clear communication, and effective self-management. By educating HCPs on how to apply shared decision-making in practice, we empower both patients and professionals to work together toward the best possible care outcomes.
Project vision
A future where bladder cancer care is truly collaborative, patients are informed and confident, healthcare professionals are skilled in shared decision-making, and together they achieve better health, reduced anxiety, and improved quality of life.
Bladder cancer is the fifth most common cancer in Europe, yet awareness is low – especially in lower-income EU countries where 60% of cases occur. Limited symptom awareness often leads to late diagnosis, and many patients lack clear, accessible information on treatment and care.
BCLEAR addresses these gaps by fostering shared decision-making and ensuring everyone has the knowledge and resources they need to recognise bladder cancer early and access appropriate care.
Aims & objectives
The primary goal of BCLEAR is to boost bladder cancer health literacy and support shared decision-making in Europe with pilot focus in Greece, Hungary and Poland.
Methodology
BCLEAR applies a structured, evidence-based and participatory methodology to improve bladder cancer health literacy and shared decision-making across Europe.
Work packages and deliverables
The BCLEAR project is structured across six interconnected Work Packages (WPs), each contributing essential expertise, methods and outputs to advance bladder cancer health literacy, shared decision-making and long-term impact across Europe.
