Aims & objectives

The primary goal of BCLEAR is to boost bladder cancer health literacy and support shared decision-making in Europe with pilot focus in Greece, Hungary and Poland.

Key objectives include:

  • Map awareness levels across all EU Member States, identifying gaps in bladder cancer knowledge and risk-factor awareness.
  • Pilot targeted outreach in countries with the greatest needs (e.g. Greece, Poland, Hungary) to test interventions and refine approaches.
  • Create multilingual educational resources – including videos, infographics and guides to inform the general public about bladder cancer symptoms, risks and prevention.
  • Develop shared decision-making (SDM) tools for clinicians and patients, tailored to both non–muscle-invasive and muscle-invasive bladder cancer, so treatment choices are made jointly and with confidence.
  • Raise awareness and engagement through local and EU-wide campaigns and stakeholder events that reach communities, healthcare providers, and policymakers.
  • Formulate evidence-based policy recommendations to integrate BCLEAR’s findings into long-term cancer prevention and care strategies.
  • Improve understanding of risk factors (e.g. smoking, occupational exposures) via tailored public education.

Each of these objectives is driven by collaboration between patients, clinicians and advocacy groups, ensuring the project’s tools are practical and patient-centred.
