BCLEAR project officially launched with kick-off meeting

The BCLEAR (Bladder Cancer Literacy for All: Advancing Knowledge and Care in Europe) project officially started with a consortium kick-off meeting on September 16, 2025 - bringing together partners from across Europe to launch the project activities.

The meeting marked the beginning of a three-year collaboration between patient organisations, urologists, general practitioners, cancer leagues and academic institutions, working together to improve bladder cancer awareness, health literacy and shared decision-making across the European Union.

During the kick-off meeting, consortium members reviewed the project objectives, governance structure and work plan, and aligned on the first implementation steps. Partners also discussed the planned mapping of bladder cancer literacy across EU Member States, the development of multilingual educational materials for the public, and the creation of shared decision-making tools for healthcare professionals and patients.

BCLEAR will place a strong focus on countries with identified gaps in bladder cancer awareness and access to information, including Greece, Hungary and Poland, where pilot activities will be carried out to test and refine project interventions before broader EU-level rollout.

The project is coordinated by the European Association of Urology (EAU) and brings together a consortium of eight organisations representing clinical expertise, primary care, cancer advocacy and patient experience. Through joint research, stakeholder engagement, awareness campaigns and policy dialogue, BCLEAR aims to ensure that people across Europe are better informed about bladder cancer symptoms, risk factors, treatment options and care pathways.

Updates on project milestones, publications and events will be shared regularly on this page as BCLEAR progresses.
