There are two types of penile curvature.

If you were born with penile curvature

If you were born with penile curvature, it means your penis naturally bends to one side; up, down, left, or right. This happens because one side of the penis grows a little differently than the other. You'll usually notice the curve when your penis is erect, and even though it's been there since birth, you might not realise it until puberty. In most cases, it doesn’t cause pain or problems, but if the bend is severe, it could make sex difficult or uncomfortable.

If you develop penile curvature (Peyronie’s disease)

If you develop a curve in your penis later in life, it’s often because of a condition called Peyronie’s disease. This happens when scar tissue forms inside the penis, causing it to bend when you have an erection. You might notice the curve slowly getting worse over time, and in some cases, it can cause pain or make having sex difficult. You may notice a ridge or hardening of the penis tissue that can be felt through the skin.

Is there a cure for Peyronie’s disease?
Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for Peyronie’s disease, but there are treatments that can help reduce symptoms and improve sexual function. Most cases don’t get better on their own, so treatment or monitoring is usually needed. How well treatments work can depend on how severe the curve is, your age, erection quality, and how closely you follow your doctor’s advice.
Are men with Peyronie’s disease more likely to get any other illnesses?
Some men with Peyronie’s disease (about 13 of 100) form tough tissue (plaque) in other parts of the body also known as Dupuytren’s contracture. The most common places where this tough tissue forms are the hands and feet. Dupuytren’s contracture is when the tissue under the skin in your hands and feet thickens and causes them to bend inward. It is not clear what causes plaque to form or why men with Peyronie’s disease are more likely to get Dupuytren’s contracture.
