Living with erectile dysfunction

A penile implant is a medical device that doctors can place inside the penis to help men who have trouble getting or keeping an erection. It’s usually an option when other treatments, like medications, haven’t worked.

2-piece implant
A 2-piece penile implant is a simpler option for men who have trouble getting or keeping an erection. It has two main parts:

  • Two tubes in the penis: these fill with fluid to make the penis firm.
  • A pump with a fluid pouch: this is combined into one small unit and placed in the scrotum. You use the pump to move fluid into the tubes to create an erection.

To use it, you squeeze the pump to fill the tubes, making the penis firm. When you’re done, you press the pump again to move the fluid back and make the penis soft.
