Chemotherapy or radiation for urachal cancer

Chemotherapy or radiation may be used if urachal cancer has spread or comes back after surgery. These treatments aim to shrink the cancer or control symptoms.

About chemotherapy or radiation

Sometimes chemotherapy or radiation is used, but it's not clear how effective these treatments are. Because this type of cancer is rare, there haven't been treatment trials with many patients.

However, chemotherapy drugs with platinum and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) have shown success in:

  • Patients where the cancer has spread to other organs or parts of the body.
  • Patients with a high chance of the cancer returning after surgery.

This chapter provides general information about treatment of urachal cancer. It is not a replacement for professional medical advice or treatment. Always consult your doctor or healthcare provider for guidance on your individual medical situation.
